Does anyone know how to add a brake function to a DPDT switch for use with a treadmill motor? KB sells one, but the $55 price tag is way to high.

I have experience with the treadmill controllers known as MC-60.
I have a power switch on the (mains) AC line-in to the controller and a DPDT switch between the controller and the motor.
If I kill the mains power switch, then throw the DPDT switch from Fwd to Rev, the motor stops INSTANTLY. It's defiantly not breaking graciously and probably really bad for the controller, but I've used this feature for many years without any noticeable issues. YMMV ;)

What Inflight does probably dumps the motor's (running as a generator) emf through the controller's anti-parallel diode, shorting the motor and giving dynamic braking - as the diode only drops 0.6v the current will be pretty high, but as it hasn't killed it yet...
