Have used paint thinner for years, and love the way it cleans, but would like something a little less volatile/odoriferous for the shop. Thanks, Mike

Zep Purple Industrial in 5 gallon jug available from Home Depot:

Mike, I have been using PSC1000 from tractor supply.

Odor is low. Cuts grease and compound very well. A little pricey but it last. I’m on year 3 with the 10 gallons I have now. Like paint thinner, it separates and settles out nicely so it can be recaptured and reused. Shouldn’t brush your teeth with it though.

In my parts washer I use whatever is on sale. Usually Kleen solv. For spot grease and oil cleaning I really like Grez-off. Works really well
Martin

Trichloroethane 1,1,1,Tech has been "outlawed" in the States for years. But it can still be found with a little digging. The military still uses it, but under tightly controlled circumstances. It is extremely hazardous to work around, and if heated will remove air from water. I have high exposure from way back when it first replaced carbon tetrachloride. Just a couple of breaths will give a hell of a buzz. But it penetrates the metal, something no other solvent will do.

High temperatures (welding, etc) and water must be avoided. Either will generate phosgene gas.
