I wonder who made the loose as a goose engraver's vise he already had? My commercial one is not loose like that,and does not have the big black plastic handle either.

It would be a fun project to make an engraver's vise,and I do have an 8" ball cutting tool.

I have seen a video of a great craftsman's self made vise. It has spokes on it like a ship's wheel. He also has done some magnificent restorations on old Hardinge machinery. Can't recall his name,though.
