One issue is getting or making a die that will be able to hold up to multiple strikes or presses. There are several places that will make a set of dies for you and probably even sell you or point you where to find the gear to hold the blank. So your only concern would be to press it. And the die place would be able to tell you what size blank and how much pressure you need for the material.
What's the project?
I think it would be interesting to research and make coins like the pieces of silver Judas was given to betray Christ. Cast billet then striking the warm round piece of silver I think.
The die no matter what is done is key.
