I am helping a friend rebuild the headstock on his older PM932. The manual is calling for shielded bearing's. Some of the bearings in the headstock are opened and some are sealed. I can see using open bearings in the bottom where they are sitting in oil but what about the upper bearings. Should sealed bearings be used or would there be enough splash lubrication to use open bearings.

I believe all of mine, top and bottom bearings were sealed bearings when I replaced them last year.

To be sure you may want to call QMT and check with Matt.

Do you have the manual with the parts diagram?

I think the general design calls for tapered roller bearings for the spindle and shielded ball bearings on the gear train. I took a look at the G0755 parts list and it has 6202ZZ, 6003ZZ, and 6007ZZ as the replacement bearing for the geartrain.

Personally, I'd replace with what the manual states. Is there a specific failure on the head or is it a preventative maintenance schedule?
