Plus Or Minus 5c Collet Chart

Is there a chart anywhere that tells you how much above or below a collet size you can hold once again I would Google but not sure of proper terms for instance hom many thousands under 1 inch can a 1 inch 5c collet hold ???

I would think that is a pretty good rule of thumb, less than 0.005". I would suppose a couple of thousandths over too, as lots of raw stock comes oversized a couple of thousandths.

If you look at the website for Hardinge, they have not only fractional collets but decimal as well, covering every 1/1000th of an inch.

Seems like an awful lot of trouble if they had a large clamping range.

Plus 0.000 and Minus 0.005 is the rule of thumb. You never go over because the Collet has to over close and the stock will slip.
