Planning my first 'real' lathe project

I was told the best thing to cover the ways with by a tool and die maker was cling wrap/plastic wrap with some oil to make it cling. Then just carefully toss the mess when done. Not had reason to do it yet but I thought I’d pass that on.
Thank you. That is a good idea.

If the small end has been centerdrilled then you are golden- if not... not sure what I'd do
Maybe make a "cup" for the small end which can be held by a center in the tailstock

The small end is threaded. I was not sure if there was a concentric surface to use. My current thought is to mount the adaptor for concentricity and machine a surface on the small end. That will be tricky and critical.
