Hi there,

I have dissasembled my *new* Pedersen milling machine to put it in basement, Once removed the main body I noticed this kind of threads runing between halves, it looks like some kind of reference or centering points but I can't figure the better technique to put it back, it is a very small thread between two massive parts, can someone elaborate about it?

Yes, that is a locating screw. After the craftsmen at Pederson had the column perfect, they cinched it down and ran the set screw into the joint. You need to remove the electrical box, remove that set screw and clean everything to pristine conditions. Then carefully put the column back on (leaving the set screw out), leave the main cinching bolts loose (well finger tight), then eyeball that set screw hole as close as you can. Then thread the set screw in carefully - you may have to slightly bump the column around. Once the set screw is in, then you evenly tighten the main bolting.

Works great. Let us know how you make out. David

Personally, I'd leave the setscrews in place and use them to register the column back to the original position.

Yep , me too . After I had it positioned correctly again I would remove those screws and drill and ream for some larger taper pins . :encourage:

Well, it is "downstairs"

Nice Rigging job! I empathize as I too have a basement shop...

Big chunks back thogether, about the centering system, it seems to be very efficient, I put the main body back in place with mounting bolts loose, setscrews in place, the holes being very tight over mounting bolts , the centering set screw falls in place naturally it is not even possible to mount it otherwise
