The 1930's motor I recently had apart used and uses shielded bearings which are factory lubricated with grease (for "life") yet have oil ports. I'm not sure about the lubricating schedule. Too much will wash out the grease? A little keeps rust away from the outside of stuff. I will add a single drop every year or so. Plain bearing motors likely benefit more and as stated, often use a felt pad in conjunction with an oil filled sintered bearing material. I wonder if those ports aren't like elevator and stop light buttons which often are not wired to anything.
