I love old motors, and have a few from the 1950's. I have an old,but fine looking GE motor on my 14" bandsaw that is only a 3/4 H.P.,but it is very large. Must be at least 10" in diameter and at least the same in length. Those heavy duty old motors had a LOT more overload capacity than these scrawny sheet metal clad motors we see today. Master was a great brand. I have one on my shaper. Had a Lincoln on my old compressor, out of an old gas station. Should not have let it go(the motor).
ou should see the ONE H.P. 2 speed motor on my Hardinge from 1964. It looks like a 5 H.P. motor,OR LARGER! It must be a foot long and at least 10 " in diameter. Hope it doesn't blow out! I don't know how I could replace it unless I sent huge money to Hardinge. Then, how would I ever get the heavy thing way back down inside the cabinet? NOT BY MYSELF!!!
