Hi guys,
I am stumped.
I’m on the final lap on this old drill press refurbish
It’s wired for low voltage.
It’s a Marathon, 115/230 volt, single phase 1,725 rpm motor. Brand new.
I have double and triple checked my wiring.
White Neutral is tied together in the box.
Black -load goes from the source to the switch and from the switch to the motor #2.
Neutral goes to #5.
I have checked to be sure the motor is wired for low voltage. It is.
Blue to 1
Red to 4
Black to 2
White to 5
Orange to 4

Do you see anything I may be missing?
I’m no electrician but I’ve done this several times with success.
I have continuity between the two black wires at the switch when I flip it up, none when I flip it down.

Thanks

Looks like one power lead should go to 4 (Red and Orange ) and the other to 1 (Blue). Make sure the internal white motor wire doesn't connect to the 110 volt input wire. It's kind of hard to see the terminal connections and number markings in some of the pictures.

Ted

What thermal trips? The internal motor one? How many amps is it drawing when it trips? It looks like in the picture you have the motor white and your power white connected to the same terminal. That doesn't look right by the motor plate.

I should have clarified, the motor does not budge, I connected it to a 50 foot reel extension cord.
Maybe ai should plug into an outlet?
The reel has a thermal device at the three prong female connector.
I’ll check the items you mentioned and try an outlet.
I do run other devices from the same reel from time to time.

The motor white and my neutral are going to 5.
I did not touch the motor wiring. I just checked for low power which is correct to the label.
Where should motor white go?
There is no reference
Motor black and load black go to 2.
Motor white and neutral go to 5.

The motor white should go to 5. Your neutral should NOT go to 5. It should go to 4 if your black goes to 1. Your input power should go to terminals 4 and 1. NOT 5.

Ted

To make it as clear as possible:

The internal white motor wire should be connected to terminal 5.

Your 120 volt wires should be connected to terminals 4 and 1.

Do NOT connect your input neutral white wire to terminal 5! Terminal 5 is for your motor's internal white wire ONLY.

Hope this helps,
Ted

Ted,
Am I reading the plate wrong?
I’ll wire it as you described.Back soon.
Thank You!

I think seeing that the white goes to terminal 5 got you off on the wrong track.... Your connections for your 120 volt power are LINE 1 and LINE 2 which are terminals 4 and 1.

Hope you didn't damage anything! Good luck!

Ted
