I come across old South Bend and Logan lathes once in a while that have broken back gear or bull gear teeth. I would like to attempt some repairs instead of buying replacements. I'll try a few different methods but I would like to buy some involute cutters as one method.

Can you tell me the data I need to select the correct cutters for the SB 9 (ABC) lathes and the Logan 200 lathes?

Cant help with the Logan.
The Southbend Back and Bull Gear are 16DP 14.5 PA.

I have access to a KO Lee tool and cutter grinder and a Univise. Will these help me shape a single point cutter or should I just use a bench grinder and do it free hand?

I have repaired numerous Back and Bull Gears from a few different lathes and use involute gear cutters.

If as you say you come across a few machines that require repairs to the gears I would be using a gear cutter rather than single point tooling.

If you are going to be brazing or pinning broken teeth only then a single point tool may be ok.

In my repairs I re-ring the gears and cut a full set of teeth.
