MISS MY MILL

I did a bunch of things to use the mill set-up with my unimat,, none of it was worth the time, effort or money.. it does work nice as a precision drill press.. my LMS 3990 mill does a great job for its size...
reading all these post answers why I dont see many videos for the unimat mill use,,,,,,,,so has anyone here
"actually and honestly" had successful experience on the unimat mill>>>???

From a design stand point on paper it’s terrible as a mill. It might do OK with maybe a 3/16” endmill, maybe.

The problem with this unit as a lathe is that the bed ways are two “springs”, that will settle in once in the cut and give reasonable performance.

As a mill, you now have three springs and a constant interrupted cut.

Once the harmonics start you can forget about finish and tool life will suffer greatly.

This is not to mention any reasonable way to effect an accurate depth of cut.

I went as far a making four plates with guide rods and a lead-screw that held the unimat milling head,, I could get ok results with small brass stuff.. luckily most of the material was on hand so mainly time was wasted..
