Mill Leaving Ridges While Face Milling

Are you using a surface plate to tram on? How do you know the top and bottom of your surface plate are parallel?

I was replying to a different users post, but re-reading I saw he said it was for demonstration purposes only. I guess that's what reading too fast and doing two things at once gets me LOL

brake rotors have tolerances of a couple of thou
so you have to find the 0 line of the rotor first, provided the rotor is flat that is
 
How much will heat expansion cause this type of problem , When heated , metal gets bigger.
