I need to make a 10 mm x 1.5 6 inch rod to make a tension knob for my 4x6 bandsaw what I'm trying to figure is what I need to turn the rod to before threading I would Google it but I'm not sure of the proper search term lol newb threading woes :)

Maximum/Minimum major diameter of an M10-1.5 thread is the search criteria.

10 MM is .393" a thread will never be larger it may be smaller however.

A 300 MM (11.8") length of zinc plated steel threaded rod is $7.00 from McMaster and they are expensive, I suspect that you could buy it from Fastenal for much less.

My Machinists' Ready Reference says for 75% thread to use a .335" drill bit.
