Little mods making things better. (And other Stuff!)

I found this video on YouBoob on adding a DRO. The 150mm / 6" DRO seems too long for this application. Would it do any damage to the DRO to cut the slide down to about half it's length? The cross slide just doesn't need to travel that far.

I’ve had pretty good luck with these, yes they can be cut to size
I started to buy that one but bought the cheaper $39 one. When it arrives I may return it and get the one you suggested.

Did you attach it to a 6" Craftsman lathe or just generally just saying it's a good DRO? Thinking how to attach to my Craftsman lathe as the Atlas in the video has a little different cross slide at the rear.

I actually have 3 of those on my mill/drill. I’m using a more portable setup on the lathe. I attached the reader head to a magnetic base along with a block with magnets on the end of the scale to attach it to the carriage. You have to get creative sometimes to add the Dro’s but worth it in the end.

Ah, I see you added to the X axis and I'm after adding to the Y axis. Good idea using magnet for the X axis! Mitutoyo is some good stuff.
