I have a new Grizzly G9972Z. I have used many lathes before this and this one is no joy. My current problem is the barrel keeps getting unscrewed and moves rapidly towards the headstock when I use any drill larger than a centering drill. I don't want to have to lock the barrel down. Any suggestions. This is a MT3 tailstock and I am using a jacobs chuck with an MT3 taper.

Thanks
Kevin

Is there a dog-point set screw in the bottom (or other side) of the tailstock that would fit into a keyway slot but in the barrel? There should be something like that to prevent the barrel from rotating, but still allow it to slide freely as the handwheel turns.

Like Randall said, either it's missing a set screw or a key.

My older G9972 has a set screw on top which engages a slot on top of the barrel.

That was it. Thanks.
