More hand work than machine work on this. The white extension on the stem is a piece of deer antler that I turned and drilled on the lathe.Stem was also faced on the lathe. Rest of it was shaped and finished with rasps.files and sandpaper. The threaded fitting were scavenged from an old Dr. Grabow pipe.

Ed,

NICE pipe.

As a part time pipe smoker I can appreciate the effort it took to make this beauty. Hope it smokes as good as it looks.

Beautiful work, Ed, but that isn't exactly what I had in mind from your title. ;-) How long did it take to make it and what kind of wood is that, if it is wood? Really nice, Ed.

Thanks Gents. The pipe is made from the root burl of the White Heath, commonly known as briar. It grows in countries bordering the Mediterranean and is the most common wood used for smoking pipes. This is my latest pipe.

I also make pipe tampers from a variety of materials.

This brought back great memories of my Dad with this thread, thank you. I can still remember his carousel type pipe rack and all the beautiful pipes had used.

You have a great talent there as these are just beautiful.

Dave

Beautiful.
Price to norway??

Kacce, that pipe was a commission for a Gent on one of the pipe forums. I don't make a lot of pipes,it is a hobby for me although I do sell most of those I make. At present I'm out of briar blocks.
Shipping to Europe has gotten more expensive thanks to the USPS raising rates for 1st. Class International mail. I mailed a tamper to Denmark last week and it cost $14.00.

I don't smoke but if I did this is the way I would go. Wonderful works of functional art.

Jeff

What kind of finish do you use to give it the gloss? Or do you just use buffing compound and wax on the burl?
I don't smoke, but those are beautiful pipes.

As an occsional pipe smoke I gotta say that both of those ppes are magnificent. I originally looked in on this thread thinking maybe it was a stoner and I would delete it quickly, but that is definately some good lookin smokin hardware. Unfortunately my lungs just cant take much pipe smoke anymore but I do admire a nice pipe and high quality workmanship too.
