Kohler 241S Storage Oiling

irish

i wondered how you got on this 'storage' thing

lets' call this 'keeping rings from rusting to bore' prevention

so. should i worry about my 3 B & S's that have been sitting about a year.

can i just start 'em up?

it's dry here.

Have A Nice Day!

: Kohler 241S Storage Oiling

most small engines will turn over fine up to a yr if they are kept in a dry place but i always add a teaspoon of oil to a pint of gas then i run the engine dry on all my engines and i have quite a few this helps them over the winter months, the briggs engine depends on which kind[briggs IC] or the light duty briggs. the ic has a castiron block and some has the cast sleeve these are more apt to rust up and stick than the aluminum blocks, sea foam works great on these engines to keep this from doing that, if my blocks are open meaning taken apart i use a tube of grease and put a nice coat on the walls:biggrin:Mac

i get it now

kohler head off

run piston to bottom and

apply grease TO THE CYLINDER WALL

wondered what you meant.:)

what about the shaft where the flywheel bolts on?

it has gotten rusty, even here. it got rained on once or twice.

i WDed it.

sorry i should have explained it better, one of my weak points lol. shaft should be greased too:biggrin:Mac

so on the briggs's

if i pull gingerly on rope starter and

don't hear a nice cracking sound

they're ok to start?

i didn't say that right.

if handle has resistance right away i should stop?

Have A Nice Day!

if you put a steady pull on the rope and it feels like the rope is stretching then its prob locked unless its the newer briggs that has the brake on the flywheel and the release handle is not engaged:biggrin:Mac

woods

pulled all 3 briggs starter ropes and engines ok.

what i meant on kohler is:

taper on crank shaft where flywheel mounts

doesn't have that shiny machined look anymore.

i'm just going to emory cloth it and put flywheel back on.

Have A Nice Day!

Clean, DRY and shiny. DO NOT put oil on the shaft at reassembly or it will be stuck there forever. And no hammering on the flywheel or the magnets will come loose.

will agree on leaving hammer in tool box, but disagree about oil lol:biggrin:Mac

have you heard this one?

if it moves and it's not supposed to.

duct tape it.

if you hit it with a hammer and that doesn't fix it.

it's an electrical problem.

note:there's one missing.

Have A Nice Day!
