New to tapping... I bought this T-handle tap set online to use to tap an M3 hole in plastic and I can't for the life of me figure out how to get the tap to seat properly in the chuck.

The larger sizes fit ok and I can tighten the chuck down on them but the M3 is just too small and wiggles around.

Am I missing something or did I get a mismatched set somehow?

I got to thinking it might work after all. You might try opening it up further and see if it has another set of jaws further in if that makes sense.

Great little project.

It is not so much a second set of jaws as a step. Think of it more as a wrench for small taps that has been cut on the end to accept larger taps.

Thanks for all the responses. I've taken a very close look at it and can clearly see that the smallest tap is seating down to the end of the chuck, in the smallest step. But the chuck just can't be tightened enough around it to grab it. Must be a mismatched set. I ordered a new straight type wrench.

Quality problem. Ususally, junk tap sets have junk taps ... and junk wrenches. Time to hit the garage sales.
