Picked up some used tools as part of a package. I was hoping I could get some assistance in identifying 2 of them so far.

The first one looks to me like a ball end turning attachment of some sort or maybe a grinding jig.

The second one looks to me like some kind of lathe turret.

First 3 pics looks like a drill sharpening set-up for a bench grinder .

The second 3 pics look to be a 4 way tool post for something . Maybe it indexes ?

Definately a 4 way post . Maybe for a specific machine , but easy to alter to suit needs . Looks like a quality piece .

Thanks. Does anyone know if the drill sharpener is complete and how would one go about mounting it.

As to the tool post, it is rather massive. I need to check to see it's application. Sure looks like it could be useful, although my biggest lathe is a South Bend 9 Junior.

The drill sharpener looks like it mounts to a post or a bar that is mounted to the table or grinder base. They all work the same to trace the line made by a cone and a cylinder intersecting a plane, the plane being the grinding wheel and the cone and cylinder represented by the pivots to form the cutting edge and the relief. I think Harold Hall explains it well in his Workshop Practice book on drills and tool grinding. You can also search for various instruction manuals for tools of that type.

Here, I shrunk these pdf files to fit so you can see.

Thanks, Pontiac. As indicated in the original post, these came with a load of machinist tools. I think I have seen something in the load that was a rest for the sharpener. Still going through the tools and trying to make heads or tails out of some of the items. I just discovered that one of the drill chuck s that came with it is not actually a drill chuck; it is a Jacobs 100 armature chuck with MT 2 to go in tailstock.
I might just have to post some photos of the haul in another thread.
