I am considered retired and disabled, but I am looking for other Locals, and also so for some practical way to acquire a decent lathe and maybe a vertical mill. I have device patents in a fairly obscure field, but I have always loved making big metal things into slightly smaller metal things. I have looked at and used a number of different lathes, but from my studies and experience, the two closest to my heart are Monarch and Sharp, maybe LeBlond, depending. Even Andrychow, which I learned to actually like.

Welcome to the group kwizzer. There are folks on the forum around the Bay as well as others over in the valley:
hopefully someone will pop to the surface for you. I sounds like you have good taste in lathes!

i have a pair of Taiwanese 1236 lathes and a 2040 Victor that have proven to be their weight in gold!
Monarch's and LeBlond are great machines!
welcome aboard!
i'm out in Tracy

I am in St. Helena, and there are a couple in your area as well ---

Petaluma. Wasn't that where they filmed American Graffiti?

Hi kwizzer, welcome to HM. I was wondering is it Andrychow or Andychow?
"Andy! Dinner's ready, come and git your chow!"
"OK Ma, be right there. What are we having?"
"Metal shavings, same as last night"
"MMM, my favorite, with 3 in 1 sauce"

:)

Man I love that movie.
 My favorite movie of all time !
