FYI- Rotary Phase Converter-start up noise =Fixed!

Hey all,
I just thought I would share this.
I have a 10hp, American Rotary RPC. About a week ago it started making an awful noise on start-ups. Kind of a high pitched scraping noise and it lasted for a split second. In addition, when I powered up my lathe, I could hear the RPC make the same noise.

I contacted American Rotary, they suggested I retorque the 4 bolts that hold the end caps to the motor.
I retorqued as specified, 158 inch#.
The noise is gone!!!!!

Interesting, End play in the bearings? I would guess the loads/forces in an idler are not as regular as in a straight motor.

Good to know, thank you sir. Have to store that in the old memory bank and try it on my noisy rotary.
