Really excited to have picked this up here in California. Was a great deal at $900 and it still runs as well!

I believe it is a Heavy 10, and the year from what the seller told me was 1951, but the serial number seems like it's pretty low as well so possibly older?

Nice! I posted that one a couple of days ago. Great price!
Yes thank you for posting those! That was a fantastic find, seller was awesome and threw in a bunch of other great stuff too for free (basically).

1950 sounds about right for an RKL lathe. If you want to know more, grizzly offers to look up a PDF of the serial number card, which would tell you what it was sold with, and a date.

Looks like you got a forever lathe on your first try....

It might not be the only one, but I'll bet you'll hang onto it.

Congrats!!!!

Yeah a Heavy 10 for sure. Nice price these days! I paid about the same for mine but many years ago. I also recommend purchasing a "lathe card" from Grizzly. They now own the rights to South Bend and have all the sales records. You get a copy of the original factory issued invoice, giving the date, customer, and any extra features added to the lathe when it was built.

Thanks for the tips on the Grizzly "lathe card" I went ahead and ordered it last night as well!

Nice grab for the price. Looks to be in pretty good shape and complete. Right about what I paid for my Atlas 10” several years ago.

Looks nicely optioned with what I can see of the QCGB and a taper attachment.

The big “5” on it makes me kind of feel like it lived in a production environment at one time in its life (Ie:5 or more lathes in a production line).

Personally, I’m not a fan of flat belts, but thats probably more due to my not being as familiar with them as I am with v-belt drives as much as anything else.
