Smithy wants $200+ for their 8” faceplate. I was wanting to make my own. Im looking to use it as a dog drive only at the moment
I currently have a 6.30” dia X .300” thick cast piece I scavenged from a brake rotor hub. Im wondering if this is strong enough ?
I forgot to take a before picture but salvaged from this. 46BD7A2E-00F5-4BBD-B8EA-B787B7B33BB1.jpegThen turn to this, image.jpg

Just make your own dead center and mount it in a 3 jaw chuck. Every time you use it, remachine the point to be concentric. Put your drive dog against one of the chuck jaws.

Not my picture, but this is the idea.
