What does everyone recommend to degrease a part and clean the chips out of holes or whatever. I will eventually have air in the shop again after Beryl came through and rearranged things. I do only manual machining so sometimes the part can be quite messy when I take it out of the milling vise.

Thanks in advance

Ted

Parts washer degreaser is my main "go-to" but WD40 in an atomiser bottle works well, especially when the nozzle is set to "jet stream" mode.

If you have a Harbor Freight nearby I've found this stuff to be quite good and economical.

I mostly use my Stoddard solvent based cabinet. I also use dish soap a bunch. Works great with no film. Don't know if you will be having a flash rust issue??

I agree that the Harbor Freight degreaser is good.
I use an aerosol Brake Parts Cleaner, w/ the tube, to blow out blind holes.

I like "white gas" aka naphtha or Coleman fuel. Evaporates faster than paint thinner but slower than acetone
Not too smelly, safe on many surfaces
Essentially very similar to lighter fluid

Simple Green for degreaser. I also wipe off what I can with a rag.

I use a chip brush to get swarf out. Be careful with air; it can send metal chips flying all over.

20 minutes ago I had to buy a quart of mineral spirits for cleaning up the new lathe...STICKER PRICE SHOCK holy cow it was $11

Depends on what I'm cleaning. I use kerosene, mineral spirits, lacquer thinner and acetone for various things. But when I'm cleaning something like nasty, caked on greasy car parts, I've been using this stuff for about the past 20 years:

Never found anything better
