How do you have your cross slide table set up? Does the tool post and vise stay on there together or are you moving them and putting them on as needed? Is there any preferred location for either of them? Thanks in advance.
It would seem safer to remove the compound plus you can mount it in the middle and have more travel. Another reason would be the cross-slide will wear more evenly. Be careful not to tighten the nuts to much as the T-Slots on the lathe are lighter then the T-slots on a Mill. You may call Smitty and ask them and what the torque setting on the nuts would be. I have seen where someone tightens them to tight and break the T-slot castings. I am sure that much pressure will bend the cross-slide too.
