Cast Iron Surface Plate

Don't surface grind the plate until you check it against your granite plate. From the pictures you posted, the cast iron plate appears to be in decent shape. Yeah, the scraping is not all that great looking but I don't see smears from use

If you are planning on scraping it in yourself, you might try hitting it with the scraper first, just to see how deep those rust spots are. Otherwise, milling would be about as good as grinding, if it's cheaper. The main thing that will determine how much work you have to do in the scraping job is how much they distort it by the hold down method they use, as that distortion will be what you are scraping out of it.
