CARRIAGE STOP

so we gotta problem with the carriage/saddle moving any time I turn the cross slide into the work.... am sure theres methods for fixing it but looking for suggestions

Probably gonna need a few more details. Carriage stops don't have anything to do with the cross slide afaik. How's about a picture of what we're talking about?
 
Would snugging up the gibb on the saddle/crossfeed help?
 
the bolts look to be hard to get at but need to check it out, dont like this slop..........
 
There is generally a carriage lock on one of the saddle wings, that when tightened, locks the carriage to the bed.
 
thats what Im trying to find out what methods are used...........
 
on older lathes they are generally a square bolt on top of the saddle wing, generally at the right front wing, on newer lathes they may be in the form of a socket head bolt set flush with the top of the wing.
 
cant quite picture that, are saying I have to drill a hole in the front way track for a bolt?? BTW its a newer mini lathe
 
No, the lathe most likely already has a carriage lock. Show us a picture of the carriage or at least tell us the make and model.
