For the curious as I was, here's a graphic that I created to compare the B&S #9 to the R8 taper. The blue areas are unique to the R8. The green areas are common to both and the yellow areas are unique to the B&S #9.

It would be interesting to compare the grip force with the retention force
 
Seat-of-the-pants says the B&S would win due to the long shallow taper. The R8 taper is only 15/16“ long and so much steeper.
