Also , if you want to get fancy ..............................bore the sleeve off center to the OD . This will give you a very fine height control by rotating the sleeve .

I have a few home made holders for the Aloris holders I made up years ago . They hold bars down to 1/8" and smaller . Trying to get them centered up with the screw and lock nut is darn near impossible , thus the offset bore method .

I am still a bit confused on the slit opposite the full contraction slit. Should it be an expansion slit on the outside of the sleeve, as I did here, or should be on the inside of the sleeve, with a corresponding expansion slit in only the flange? Or does is make a difference with material and/or size of the bar?

I would just make your slit deeper.

I will do that, and may make another trying an off-center hole, as it was very fiddly getting it centered.
