I am trying to figure out which atlas lathe I just purchased. ID plate is missing. The chuck is 6" effective length is 24". All of the castings are iron with exception of the change direction mechanism. I am unsure of the age. I believe the taper on the tail stock is #2 but I am uncertain.

Looks like a 10F to me.

At the top of the Atlas forum, are many threads, such as the linked one above. But it's a 10f. Google Atlas 10F metal lathe.

It'll be in one of these places. It'll be a tag on the painted places or stamped on the way. It won't say 10F. It'll say H36 or V36 or TV36 or maybe some Craftsman number. But it'll be a 10F. Search the words "Atlas 10F metal lathe" on the internet. It's what you have. There's really nothing else it could be. No machine tag necessary. Lol
Your model does not have a quick change gear box, and is missing a horizontal countershaft, according to your pictures.

It'll say TV36. I see that yours has Timken bearings. Tailstock taper is MT2, headstock is MT3 with a threaded spindle nose of 1 1/2-8. Enjoy!

Unusual chuck mounting, but I've seen weirder things
