Another toolholder Q

Will you be able to use a skew. round nose or scraper, hand held? Pens are not straight across but involve tapers and valleys. Metal lathes are not suited to that, at least not in any timely fashion. I seem to remember there is a corner rounding jig from somebody.
One of the people here made taper attachment like contraption that had fixed ends, but used contoured plates so that the cross slide could make complex tapers.
 
Actually, as far as the tapers on the pen body, I was planning on simply making a mandrel piece for the headstock that had a slight eccentricity to it (like a few degrees) such that a straight pass with the power feed cut a nice clean taper.
