I ordered a 1/2"-diameter carbide ball-end mill just so I would have this size around the shop. Unfortunately, I went by the photo, not the text. I thought it was around 3" long, but it's actually a 6" end mill.
I was thinking I would send it back, but before I do...what do you use a 6" ball-end mill for? I would think it would be too flexible to give a good finish in steel. Am I wrong? I once ordered a 6"-long 5/8" HSS end mill for a special purpose I no longer recall. Someone told me they were used in plastics.
If it could be made to work well in aluminum and steel, I suppose the additional length could come in handy once in a while.
