3 Phase Contactor with 120V coil.

The "control" transformer will need to be sized based on load.
It is not good to have two circuits in a machine or an appliance and there are specific colors for the wires when it is done.
Tapping off the three phase and running it to ground whether at the machine or in the panel is not kosher.
If all your running off the control circuit is the contactor coil and the on/off switch than a small control transformer will work and is cheap and a correct choice.
If all you are running is as above than how about getting a 220 volt coil for your contactor?
That would also be a correct choice.l
How about a picture and the specs of the contactor..

Many low voltage transformers have dual voltage primaries for either 120 volt or 240 volt service. Just ignore the secondary winding on the transformer and use the transformer as an autoformer. The energizing coil on a contact is a low current device and even a small transformer will provide the current necessary.
