So my saturday started out as normal as any, wake up get dressed and head for the shop. I tinkered with several projects that I have going on till about mid-day.
One project required me to turn a weld off of a cast steel part in order to reuse it. The only way to hold it with the chuck was from the inside of a cast diameter.
It was not consintric with the machined surface I was atempting to reclaim by about .010.
I took a break to wrap my head around the situation. My wife asked me if there was anything special i needed to make this easier. I replied I need a 4 jaw chuck. She said look on craigslist to see if one is available. I did and found Herb Blair ( a popular Youtuber, and a member of this fourm) was selling a 4 jaw for $1800. I know what your thinking $1800 for a four jaw is way to much, but he was throwing in a 12x30 lathe to sweeten the deal! I contacted him, we came to an agreement and I headed out for Herbs house Sunday morning. By 9:30 sunday night the lathe was in my shop. Now to get it back on the stands and get some juice to it.
This lathe will replace the central machinery 9x20.
I will post some pictures later on in the week.
