1018 vs 4142 Steel?

I need to drill, cut, and face a pair of steel cylinders. Ordinarily I would employ 1018 steel, but my metal vendor is out of 1018 in the size I need. He does have some 4142, however, so I am going to pick that up. I have looked at the specs, and of course 4142 is significantly harder, but not too terribly hard, it seems. Of course I am going to use HSS drills to core the cylinders and I intend to use carbide insert lathe tools. The blade on the bandsaw is HSS, although it is running just a bit fast. Obviously, I will use plenty of lubricant when sawing and push rather conservatively. Other than that, can anyone tell me how well 4142 machines? Any tips for handling this steel? The rod is 1-1/4" diameter, and will be bored out to 10mm. It is a 2HP variable speed lathe.

Nothing special, run the HSS about 30% slower than 1018 (70 SFM), carbide around 200 sfm.
