1/6th scale 1890's 30ft navy steam cutter (live steam)

the forward set with their angled backs that fit the hull frames were soldered up and shaped today, now to get some lathe time making the sheaves. (they are all the same)

made the small pair of cable guides that help get the cables around the curves of the hull,, sort of down in the jewelry range of metal work.. most of the steering gear is complete..

used string to get the steering gear in its correct positions, machined up some little bits that with small wedges will lock the cables in place..

another day another part,, decided to add a hanger bracket for the aft end of the steering shaft.. not in the navy plans but will allow to get the steering cables all rigged before installing the forward bulkheads.. wheel and drum assembly spins nicely..

waited for materials, did some small stuff during the time,, stuff arrived built the steering cable gear,, rigged but not locked in place yet..

set up the new fire bricks and decided to have a go at soldering the boiler base parts together.. just kind of followed the ring around and then flipped it to the other ring,, need to rivet and solder the feet..

base feet soldered and riveted in place,, made alignment pins from screws and mounted them in the boiler support rails,, rails lagged to frames,, washers, springs and hitch pins finish the job,,

a stock servo gearbox for steering would not fit,, so started throwing lots of aluminum chips to build one,, 5 turn servo + 12 tooth drive gear +60 tooth main gear.. I should get a 360 degrees at the shaft,, lots of power and not to fast..
