south bend 13

I should have started this thread a little while ago, but better late than never. I bought a 13" South Bend made in 1960 a year or so ago. The plan has always been to do a proper rebuild of the machine, including grinding the bed ways and scraping in the saddle, cross slide, compound, etc. and...

I picked this 13 up at an auction for $505.00 here in the Pacific Northwest. Saved it from a school that was being demolished and rebuilt. Anyway, it came with several paper copies of original documentation. Is the paperwork worth anything?

I have recently bought this 1914 southbend 13x7 at auction. SN 4783 .Looks to be pretty nice shape and complete. Came with face plate and four jaw chuck. Lantern style tool post, lathe dogs, dead centers, and mt3 drill chuck, and change gears. There is a couple bad gears in the apron. It works...

First time I read this I thought it said keep your lathe skinny... I have an old SB13, that I need to get under power. Just starting out on cleaning and checking per the article: http://www.wswells.com/data/howto/H-4.pdf hope its ok to post a link.... Any other ideas of what I should check...
