Ok, so I do spend a bit (PAYG credit card here: A bit? more than "a bit" more like hundreds per month) through ebay and generally have no issues with delivery (Royal Fail / Evri[Hermes]/Parcel Farce/DX/DPD/DHL/UPS et-al) but every time Yodel gets involved there are issues, without fail, every time, for one reason or another. I have lost count of the excuses, problems or issues because there have been that many.

This one? so darn stupid it is unreal!

RANT MODE Engaged

So, I ordered a box of ten TCGT110204 Triangular inserts for Aluminium because I needed them for an upcoming project. Ordered and paid for them through eBay on 31/7/2024.

Seller decides to use Yodel (red flag #1) who are NOTORIOUS (around where I live anyway) for being difficult to contact and even more difficult to deal with if you are not the "sender".

Get an email from yodel that the parcel would be "out for delivery" yesterday (Thursday 8/Aug/2024), no timescale, no window of time, just "out for delivery". Go about my day, minding my own business. Nothing, no knock at door nothing, think nothing of it, delays happen. No need to go out, so front door stays locked and bolted. All this and I am never more than six feet from the front door and within line of sight and easy hearing if somebody should ever knock on the door.

Get up this morning, check tracking. Tracking states: Delivered to safe location "Front Door". What the ****? that is NOT a safe location (red flag #2)

Front door opens onto the street, is not a safe location by any stretch of the imagination and there are zero "safe" locations anywhere near or around front door. We do not have a letterbox, only a false, decorative plate that looks like one and is solid brass (don't ask, long story)

So, unlock and unbolt front door, search around door and immediate area, no parcel. What a surprise! NOT!

Check with immediate neighbour, no they did not see it or pick it up for safe keeping.

Advise seller, they come back with "have any family members or neighbours picked it up? (red flag #3) Family members?

with only myself and partner here? heck no. Partner never opens door, whether I am here or not, so that is a no go.
No neighbour has it either, so again, that is another no go, so advise seller of situation again.

Seller replies "contact yodel to see what they can do" (not exact words, but the point of what they were saying) (red flag #4)

So contact seller again, stating it is their obligation to contact yodel not mine, since they are the one that engaged that company as the delivery agent and point blank told them I wanted a refund as it is obvious they have no intention of dealing with the issue properly. Waiting to hear the outcome.

Holy cr4p, Yodel are a pain in the butt

RANT MODE DISENGAGED

Now, I understand a courier being up against a clock and having to make a certain amount of deliveries, but how stupid do you have to be not to knock on a door and instead just leave a parcel, essentially, on a doorstep in the street where anybody can simply pick it up and walk off with it which is obviously what happened here?

I am also understanding enough with sellers who genuinely want to resolve the issue and do all they can. This seller though? obvious from the beginning they do not want to deal with the issue and want to pass responsibility / pass the buck, on to me to deal with.

Sorry, not happening. They engaged the company, they deal with them and the fallout of their actions.

If they had said "sorry to hear that, we will get replacements out via a different courier whilst we investigate what happened" (which has happened on a couple occasions through a different courier mixing up addresses) it would have been different but to immediately go to "contact yodel yourself" after confirming non-delivery and no neighbours have it is a classic "cant be bothered" move I have dealt with before so I have no time for it or sellers who go that route.

I had the same type of headache but with DHL, they hid the fact that they don't deliver to the town where I live, instead they camouflaged it by messages like, invalid postal code, or incorrect address, etc.
I learned my lesson, next time I'll ask them to keep the package at their nearest depot so I could drive there myself and pick it up, in fact that's what I did with the last delivery, I just drove there 7AM before they even opened , the driver was more than happy to hand over the parcel since he did not need to deliver it. saved him the trouble and myself the extra headache .

By way of an update...

Yodel never admitted fault for the issue though they did say in an email, after 20 (yes, you read that correctly TWENTY!) attempts to get them to deal with the issue) that "the item was left in an insecure area". Which was enough of an "admission" that ebay recognised that as full admission of them being at fault.

The seller did everything to push the issue onto me and took no active part in a resolution, nor did the even have any interest in attempting to investigate or resolve the issue with Yodel.

eBay had to step in and and refund the transaction due to not receiving what I paid for.

The seller? diywerkzeuge

And now, on a different note, I have a similar issue with a yet another parcel company as of today saying I have an "enclosed porch" when no such structure exists! Gah! FML!!
