Where can I find machine lube oil in less than 1-gallon containers?

Hi,

I am looking to get Mobil-DTE24 (ISO32/SAE10W) and Mobil-Vactra-2 (ISO68/SAE20) for lathe/mill lubrication but only see those in 1 gallon (or 5 gallon) containers from mcmaster or enco. does anyone know where I can find these in Quart size containers online or in MA/New-England area?

I don't use my machines on a daily basis, and a 1 gallon container will last me several lifetimes. I currently have a Valvoline SAE 85W-140 gear oil in a 1 Qt container that I've had for the past 2+ years and is still pretty full (I'm not even sure why I have this type of gear oil, but apparently I do). I have recently purchases a Clausing lathe and wish to follow the oil recommendation per the clausing manual which is the ISO32 for the spindle, and ISO68 for the gears as mentioned above.

should I just buck up and get the 1 gallons and let it sit in some dark corner for years and years until called?

What say you?

Thanks in advance,
Sharon

Your not going to find it...BTDT>just suck it up and buy the gallon;)
Unless there is someone close to split it with you?

Your machine is coming along very nicely!

There are various ebay sellers which sell pint kits at a pretty inflated price but still cheaper than buying 2 gallons if you really don't want gallons.

I have some Vactra 2, which says it can be used as bar-and-chain oil, like on a chainsaw. Assuming the converse to be true, I have occasionally used bar and chain oil as way oil and for all I can see, it seems to be the same stuff. Available in quarts wherever chain saws are sold. The ISO32 oil (although I don't know the exact specs of Mobil DTE24) is likely common hydraulic oil, which is fairly cheap and usually sold by the gallon at hardware stores and even Home Depot. My lathe specifies ISO32 oil in the headstock, so I've been using the hydraulic oil for over a decade, changing it annually, with good results.

Thanks for the responses, I bit the bullet and got a gallon of each from mcmaster carr since I had to get some oil cups and ball oilers from them to replace my missing ones on my lathe (waited until I was done going through all the parts to make sure I order it all in 1 go). I thought about finding oil locally, but decided to go with the recommended brand/type and not have to second guess it.

If anyone near Boston might wanna split those, ping me as I don't think I'll be using this up anytime soon.

Cheers, and have a great weekend.
