Hello!

Where might you be finding lathe components on the inter-webs? I’m vetting a CNC lathe project; I have more time than money at the moment. I’m having a particularly hard time searching for a 5C lathe spindle with a pneumatic collet closer. I’m seeing American made ones for $3k, but was hoping to score something cheaper/less precise. Whatever search terms I’m using on Aliexpress aren’t yielding much.

Search 'Hardinge headstock' on eBay.

just buy a Hardinge 5C lathe of the flavor you want to start. They can be had really cheaply for HC and DV/DSM models. HLV and HLVH model is way more expensive starting point but has a gearbox and threading. Parts are reasonably easily available, but some are a bit pricy. At least you would have a very capable foundation. Industrial auctions are the best place, just watch for mandatory rigging fees and buyers' premiums.
