As mentioned in a previous post we just had to replace the transmission in our motorhome with all of 61,000 miles on the odometer. The bill came just over $7,600 00. Over the last couple weeks, we've started feeling similar shifting problems with our 2020 Ford Expedition. We took in in for diagnosis yesterday and got the news today that the transmission needs to be pulled and at least partially rebuilt. This time we're still under the factory warranty with 59,700 miles on the clock

The problems are covered under TSB -2101. At the very least it will need to have the valve body and one of the clutch hubs replaced. If upon inspection they find wear on the sun gear it too will have to be replaced along with one of the shift solenoids. After these parts are replaced, the transmission has to be reinstalled and tested. At this point there is no guarantee the problems will be solved. Should the problems not be resolved they have to order a whole new transmission.

It sounds like the truck will be out of service for at least 2 weeks. It couldn't have happened at a much more inconvenient time. I have a trailer load of leaves in the drive waiting to go to the recycle center and probably another half a dozen or more loads still on the ground. Hopefully we can get one of the local landscaping companies to finish the job.

Just to add insult to injury I just finished installing a DTR DUMP Trailer PVC Mesh Tarp Kit, and I'm halfway through installing a Road Handler LH3000 unloader to make it easier to transport and unload leaves, brush, and other yard debris. I think by the time the truck gets back in service all the leaves will be down and hopefully hauled away.

Man the price of engines and transmissions are ridiculous nowadays .
I worked at a transmission shop when I was a lad, a built C6 , a TH400, and a TF727 were all about $1,700 (installed) respectively for a rebuilt unit with 50,000 mile warranty-
this was nearly 40 years ago ,
man I’m getting old.

I took my wife's Lincoln MKC in to a local body shop to see how much it would cost to repair a small ding and a couple spots where the primer was showing on the roof.
$4,600.
We use to pay less than $500 for this amount of work.
At these rates a complete paint job would be over $20,000.

We didn't repair them because it was too expensive. If customer pay, we would sell the black box complete rebuild-exchange.
Came with a 3 year unlimited mile warranty at a competitive price. No brainer.

This is very unusual.
By the time I retired a few years ago (Ford Dealer) we had very few transmission repairs. We worked on mostly Super Duty trucks and SUV's.
I understand they are having some issues with the 10 speed transmissions.

Ford fixed the issue of not many trans repairs when they introduced the 10 speed transmissions. lol
