Hi all:

My latest auction box lot included the following:

whatsit_1 sm.jpg

Each of the 7 pieces is about 8 inches long by 0.92 high and 0.230 thick (200 by 23.4 by 5.80 mm). The teeth are definitely for cutting as opposed to a gear rack. Each tooth is angled and there appear to be 7 teeth per inch (~3.4 mm pitch).

Maybe they cut kind of like a power hacksaw does?

This came from a (now closed) sheet metal company in a rural area. There were keyway broaches in the same lot (which were my objective) but the auctioneer assembled all the lots with random stuff thrown together.

Can someone give me a definite ID? Informed speculation? A WAG? ;)

Thanks,

Craig

At first I was thinking keyway cutters, but not the style for a press with shims.

The teeth seem small for key seat cutting, at least compared to any broaches I've seen.

@pdentrem I snagged these items not far from you, over in Simcoe.

Looking at the ends, maybe they can be ganged to cut different widths. This infers some sort of specific machine. Mike

Are they tapered end to end like a keyway broach, or is the cutting face parallel to the bottom?

They look like face broaching cutters. There are machines for broaching the outside of parts rather than inside holes.
