I know this is a chuck but I don't know what from or what it's use would be. I is still attached to a shaft with 2 bearings, looks old. Any body have any knowledge of this chuck? You can see by mt hand in the pic that it is quite small, you turn a knurled ring to open and close it. It also has holes for a spanner around the knurled ring. I don't know if it is attached to a arbor or a spindle or what it is from, It came with some other tooling for a mill I bought.

It could be off anything. It looks like its just a small old 3 jaw. Nice looking old thing. Probably screwed to the shaft. Did you get the other jaws with it?

Here is a link to an old catalog showing the chuck: http://www.roseantiquetools.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderfiles/goodellprattno.16.pdf

The catalog also shows some small lathes.

How very cool! Thanks, I knew someone here would recognize it, Now what do I do with it? I don't think it would fit anything I have. It is kinda neat though.

Greg,

Like Jeff said, it's very similar to the chuck on my Unimat lathe - about 3" with the knurled ring and holes for tommy bars. I would guess that it's a complete spindle from some make of jeweler's lathe. Does the chuck unscrew from the shaft/spindle? I assume those are two bearings?

It might make a nice tool grinder......or indexer.......or????

I have not tried to unscrew it but I am sure it would. Yup those are bearings, the catalog above makes this very old.
