I'm making some small shelves to mount rod holders on an aluminum boat. I'm trying to determine the best plastic to use. It would be 3/8 or 1/2" x 3" x 48" mounted horizontal on aluminum brackets. Preferably inexpensive, UV resistant, light in color, and easy to machine. I made a similar one years ago from marine plywood. An alternative would be 1/4" aluminum bar but I would prefer plastic.

Thanx Papa Charlie. Looks to be exactly what I need. Now to find the best price.

I recently did some work with light HDPE 1/2" textured marine grade for mill table covers, it easy to machine, tough and should hold up well to UV. I bought some in light grey, but alternative is white. It is not as stiff as Phenolic or Delrin, but should hold up better in the marine environment and is easy to clean. I believe many of the plastic cutting boards are made out of HDPE. You can check around on pricing, but significant amount of the cost is the shipping if you need 48" length. I also work with phenolic board, I would not recommend it in the marine environment, Delrin would be an alternative but more expensive.

I ordered the one you you linked to. That's a better price than I found. More than I need but the rest will go on my material stockpile shelf. I'm sure I'll find a use for it.
Thanx for all the replies.
