the toolpostbase on the compount is at 1.6"from the center

Is that a 14x40 lathe if so For a QCTP BXA or 200 would be the size

Agreed, BXA. Generally you would need at least 1.813" clearance from the top of the compound slide to centerline of the spindle to use a CA with 3/4" shank tools.
