what is this/

A very good friend of mine gave me this and he normally knows everything about everything but he does not know anything about this. Do you know what it is? I thought it was used in tig welding small, round parts. It does have a variable speed control on it but I don't think it will go slowly enough for tig welding.

That looks like a cylindrical grinding attachment. It also does tapers,as it is mounted on a tilting table. It can be mounted on a surface grinder,or possibly on a tool and cutter grinder. I have 2 of these attachments,though not the same make as yours.

Keep it entirely away from welding if you value it.

Thanks for the info .can you tell me who made this? The belt looks a little worn.

I can't tell who made that. I can't recall who made mine,off hand,as I don't use it much. It only will grind 6" length,so I use the tool post grinder on the lathe.
