Was at a garage sale this weekend and picked up a chunk of this wiping solder. Anybody know what it’s purpose is? Is it regular solder just in a different form?

For doing the old-style old wiped joints on lead traps and such but I don’t know what the composition would be. I’m thinking real soft — you really need to pull the stuff around to build up the joint. We did one at work a few years ago, pretty interesting.

Also was used to seal up joints on lead sheathed telephone cable, needs to have a lower melting point than pure lead.
