Well First Cuts

Yesterday I stolled over to the scrap yard and picked up some brass. I hope that you can tell something with the pics, it is hard for me to tell if something is in focus or not with this camera!

Even though this piece of brass is just a test, it still will become a part. What I can tell you is this, is that this part was cut without traming this machine and to my surprise, best I can tell, the head is .0005 out from the table. Even though this was just a test and it did remind me how much it sucks to machine on a mill manually, it turned out pretty good.

All said, as I did this, it enforced the fact, that I will be getting a power feed! What I am really impressed with is the fact that all the gibs were already set, how well trammed this machine is from the start. All cuts were done with a 1/8th endmill and 1/8th drill bit. This part is not done yet, there are some cuts that still need to be done and I will need to get a rounding over endmill and a slitting arbor to complete it. I have some valve compound and may jewel it, I have not decided on that yet.

Good to see you having fun with your machines.
Keep us posted with all your projects, big or small.

Yes it is fun and I am looking forward to making some other parts, as the tools come in. Pretty soon, I will be ready for what I was really intending to use this machine for. The nice thing is that the parts that I will be making don't need a real close tolerance. Which is great, considering how close this one is already, I don't think that I will be messing with it, just gearing up for the great adventure. My only worry right now is, will it be able to sustain it's self in the future with all this crap that is going on around us.

Hey that's very cool... I want to make a bipod for my AR. That's definitely on the list of todo's. I'm in the process of turning some arbors. I need a slitting saw for the mill also... and the ability to arbor flat pieces on the lathe. What is that brass piece for?

The brass pc goes into the slot in the forearm of the Eliseo stock. Usually where I have the handstop for my left hand.. Here is a pic with the bipod on the rifle. Note, I don't use scopes becasuse I am a prone palma shooter.
